The Minister of Industry, Engineer Khaled Hashem, announced that deepening the local manufacturing of the automobile sector and its components is a top priority to reduce the import bill, pointing to the success in localizing global production lines for the manufacture of tires for buses and major trucks in Alexandria Governorate.
Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, confirmed that the carbon black industry is one of the intermediate and feed chemical industries of strategic importance in the local manufacturing system, as it is a major input to the sectors of automobile tires, rubber products, plastics, inks and paints.
The Minister pointed out the Ministry's keenness to deepen the carbon black industry and increase its production and local component in accordance with the highest global environmental and technological standards, thus contributing to meeting the growing needs of the local market and supporting export abroad.
This came during Engineer Khaled Hashem, accompanied by Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, inspecting two factories for the production of carbon black and commercial tires in the Amriya region, at the beginning of his visit to a number of industrial castles in the governorate, to follow up on the progress of the production process and determine the capabilities of manufacturing and export.
The Minister of Industry began his tour by inspecting the Birla Carbon Egypt factory, which is built on an area of 165 thousand square meters with investments of 526 million dollars, and its annual production capacity is 250 thousand tons, while the company exports at least 80% of its production to more than 27 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and provides 450 direct and indirect job opportunities.
The Minister inspected a mini-exhibition of models of manufacturing equipment, the product quality laboratory, 5 production lines, control and operation rooms in the manufacturing process, the reactor area and the container loading station. He also listened to an explanation about the history of the company’s founding in Egypt in 1994, which is the first facility for manufacturing carbon black in Egypt and the Middle East region.
The minister concluded his tour by inspecting the factory of Promition Tire Egypt, which specializes in the production of truck and bus tires, and is located on an area of 300,000 square meters, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tires. The company exports more than 70% of its production to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and provides 2,154 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Hashem stressed that the vehicle tire industry is one of the important complementary industries in the Egyptian industry strategy, and contributes to deepening local manufacturing and strengthening supply chains in the industries feeding vehicles, which supports increasing the local component and reducing dependence on imports, and opens the way for increased production and export.
During the tour, the Minister inspected the research and development building, the wire laboratory, and the chemistry laboratory, in addition to the mixing lines, processing lines, frame building machine, and press building, and listened to an explanation about the company’s efforts in research and development, sustainability, and practical training.
The Minister of Industry indicated the Ministry's readiness to provide support to companies regarding compliance with the goals of decarbonizing industry, especially with global markets increasingly adopting sustainability standards and carbon-related regulations.
Hashem stressed that maintaining the competitiveness of Egyptian exports requires accelerating the transition towards cleaner production systems that are more efficient in the use of resources, thus supporting the ability of Egyptian products to penetrate global markets.
